Little Saints Orphanage is an arm of Strong Tower Mission, a Christian charity organization set up in October 1993 with the aim of mitigating the emotional, material and spiritual burdens of the underprivileged in society through our Family Relief Centers and orphanages. Little Saints Orphanage is the second arm of the ministry that rehabilitates, and reforms orphaned, abandoned and abused children.
The Ultra modern Orphanage has its main branch located at 10 Ayinde Bisi close, Akowonjo area of Dopemu, Lagos. The main orphanage is presently home to over eighty orphans of various ages, from 2 years old to seventeen. The baby care unit of the orphanage is located in Strong Tower House, 6b Dalberto road, Palmgrove estate, Lagos. This unit receives an average of five babies a month.
Since inception, the orphanage has rehabilitated over a thousand children. Usually most of these children are found malnourished, dehydrated and traumatized. Some of them are found suffering from serious ailments such as tuberculosis, hernia, and infections caused by the adverse environments in which they were abandoned. A lot of money is usually expended on them to restore them back to health.
NEEDS/CHALLENGES
One of the biggest challenge the orphanage faces is provision of medical facilities for the children. We set up a clinic but it is empty right now due to lack of medical equipments and medical personnel. Without equipments the personnel have nothing to work with. When we take the orphans to Government hospitals, they are shunned. Private hospitals are extremely expensive. This is the dilemma we face from day to day. It is extremely difficult coping with the influx of sick children that flow in from the streets.
Never in my widest dreams did I imagine that a mother would carry a baby for nine months and after going through the near-death experience of giving birth, throw the baby in a pit, or dump the baby in a dustbin. Our first abandoned baby was brought to the orphanage in a polythene bag. Amazing!.
With love and adequate care a lot of our children have survived. Our mortality rate is extremely low compared to many orphanages. This is as a result of our zeal, commitment and passion for the children. It is a commitment and we put everything we have and everything we are towards their survival.
When we lose any of the children we mourn. Once I clutched a dead baby to my chest not knowing she was dead as I ran to the clinic. For days the smell of death tormented me. That was one of my lowest moments in this humanitarian work..
One great source of joy in our work is the adoption of some of our children. At first we resisted giving out children for adoption because I was still trying to recover from the shock of encountering this prevailing evil in our society and I would trust no one to love them. I was later inspired to seek adoption. The first child we gave out for adoption is now 8 years old and she is doing well emotionally, mentally and physically. She is well loved by her adopted parents. Since then adoption has over shadowed the evil of abandonment. Love and joy, have minimized the effects of the trauma the children have gone through and have made all our sacrifices worthwhile. So far over two hundred and fifty of the children have been adopted in the past seven years. The orphanage works in collaboration with the adoption section of Lagos State Ministry of Youth, Sports and Culture in adoption cases. All children adopted are distantly but strictly monitored until adulthood.

Through it all my greatest source of inspiration, motivation and strength is God, and then my husband Capt. Jide George who is a father and a provider to the children. I can boldly say he supplies all their needs according to the portion that God has allotted to him on earth. He withholds nothing needful from the children. He does his utmost best for them. Without his ever needed support this humanitarian venture will be a shadow of success. Still, he alone cannot do it all, not even the greatest billionaire can carry such awesome burden alone. We need help to fulfill the dreams and meet the needs of all the orphans. To give them good education, without which their past will forever torment them.
With regards to funding, the orphanage depends on private funding from my family, internal generation of funds through musical concerts, as well as donations from the general public. Compassion band, our resident band has through music brought awareness to the plight of orphans, and have generated funds through commercial engagements for the needs of the children. Their contributions have been indispensable.(contact: compassion@littlesaintsorphanages.org)
LITTLE SAINTS HOUSE
God has been doing great things for our children. His faithfulness is from everlasting to everlasting. We thank God for the completion of our latest project, the 200-bedded hostel built by our humble selves with some assistance from the public. The project was extensive and expensive but quite fulfilling for everyone involved.
Little Saints Orphanage has contributed to the rehabilitation and reformation of numerous orphans and abandoned children in Nigeria. Still there is much to be done; this is why we embarked on such a gigantic project to make room for more orphans who weather the storms of life on the streets . The building was completed and officially opened ceremoniously in October 2001 by her excellency Chief Titi Abubakar (wife of the Vice President of Nigeria) and Her Excellency, Mrs. Oluremi Tinubu (wife of the Lagos State Governor). The building was named Little Saints’ House.
We invite everyone to pay a visit to the children of the Little Saint's House at the Little Saints Orphanage. The children are wonderful to behold. Their laughter, their tender touch, their whispers of love and appreciation will stir up tenderness and compassion in anyone.
Rehabilitation of children with special needs: Project at hand
In the past 2 years, we have been receiving disabled babies and babies born by AIDS victims into the orphanage. We have lost a few but Rhoda, Jemima and Faith are still alive. Rhoda tested negative and has been adopted by a wonderful couple. We await the healing of Jemima and Faith. We have taken a leap of faith and has purchased a piece of land to build a rehab centre for children with special needs. We need help to complete this project. We appeal to compassionate friends to be a part of this. Please contact us.
Today we celebrate and appreciate their various contributions to Christendom and to the lives of the orphans and the needy.
